Flixton FC 3–4 Cammell Laird 1907 FC

Flixton FC were left disappointed after surrendering a two-goal lead as Cammell Laird 1907 FC claimed a 4-3 victory in an entertaining North West Counties League encounter at Valley Road.

The Lions made an excellent start and were rewarded for an energetic opening spell, taking control of the contest through goals from Leon Creech and Lewis Byrne. Alex Mortimer's side moved the ball confidently through midfield, showing composure in possession and creating a number of promising opportunities as they deservedly established a 2-0 advantage.

Cammell Laird responded before the interval to reduce the deficit and headed into the break trailing 2-1, setting up an intriguing second half between two attacking sides.

The visitors found an equaliser shortly after the restart, but Flixton responded impressively as Milan Lalkovic calmly converted from the penalty spot to restore the Lions' lead. The contest took another twist when Kyle Jacobs was shown a red card midway through the second half, leaving the hosts to play the closing stages with ten men.

Despite continuing to battle and remaining a threat going forward, the numerical advantage eventually proved decisive as Cammell Laird scored twice in the latter stages to complete the comeback and leave the Lions empty-handed.

Encouraging Signs Despite the Result

The performance once again highlighted the progress Flixton continue to make as they adapt to life back in the North West Counties League. The Lions finished with:

• 232 completed passes

• Three goals scored

The statistics reflected another confident display in possession. Flixton completed the majority of their passes through the middle third, patiently building attacks before progressing into dangerous areas, while converting three of their 13 attempts to produce an impressive 23% conversion rate.

Although the result ultimately went against them, the Lions once again demonstrated their ability to control large periods of the game, create chances and compete with quality opposition.

Looking Ahead
